About us 

Halliru Memorial Youth Development and Empowerment Initiative (AYDI) is a non- profit making, non-governmental and non- partisan, registered in Nigeria, AYDI was established in 2008 and registered in 2009 with State Government (RYC/3519/2009), CAC/No 56386 in the year 2012. 

An organization committed to enhancing the quality of life, Reproductive Health and Rights on individuals and communities in Nigeria. 

AYDI supports youth to improve their livelihoods, to develop health and educated youth for the wellbeing of community, empowering the youth for a healthier community. 

AYDI was formed by a group of concerned individuals, who are very versatile in social, health and development work at different levels. 

AYDI has capacity in Adolescent Reproductive Health, other health issues, Conflict Management, skills development, education and career guidance.

The structure of AYDI comprised of the following Board and committees that have intellectual and experienced persons drown from different cadres of life which comprises of a Board of Trustees, experienced Advisory Board Members, Special Technical Committee and While Management Team Members serves as volunteers and consultants for project planning and implementation supported by the Special Technical Committee.

ACHIEVEMENTS

• AYDI has engaged a partnership with Girl Effect Nigeria to implement the Technology Enabled Girl Ambassadors project in Kano which is a bespoke methodology that allows safe access and dialogue with girls. The expected impact of the project is understanding and championing the needs of girls.

• Back to School Support & Career Guidance for in and out of school girls 2009 to 2010

•Girls; Education/Literacy, Livelihood (income generational skills, financial literacy) and Health services (SRH2009 to 2012

• Life building skills training for in and out school girls

• ZIP UP PLUS (HIV prevention for in school youths) Campaighn For In school Youth through peer to peer SFH Kano

• Established Innovative center for girls with 50 girls and 4 safe spaces for girls 2010 to 2011

• 28 VSO National Volunteers from Dala and Madobi LGAs in Kano were trained on advocacy skill/community entry and RDT on malaria, now part of the AYDI RTD team and other activities.

• 206 girls from Dala and Madobi in Kano were supported back to school (VSO)

• Entrepreneurship basic training for 40 girls and 2 CEVs on (liquid soap, cosmetic base,)

• Entrepreneurship basic training for 40 girls and 2 CEVs on (liquid soap, cosmetic base)

• 22 Safe spaces (11 out of school and 11 in school) in KMC, Dala, Madobi, Nassarawa and Ungogo LGAs in Kano State 2010 to 2012

• 2 Marriage Prep Safe Spaces classes/meetings with girls aged 15 -20 and 17-22 on Saturdays and Sundays in Kano State. The curriculum in the classes include building girls communication skills, teaching them how to cook, teaching them skills including how to make soap, powder 2013 to 2014

• 22 Safe spaces (11 out of school and 11 in school) in KMC, Dala, Madobi, Nassarawa and Ungogo LGAs in Kano State 2010 to 2012

• Yamuke Yammata – (16 weeks) (AYDI) Support in recruitment of Girl Ambassadors for the jingle recording to anchoring the Yamuke Yammata radio show with Freedom Radio in Kano and GHN, conducting pretest assessment, managing listenership circle within safe spaces, Conduct community advocacy visit as well as support in the Yamuke Yammata posttest assessment. Girl Effect Nigeria 2015

• Facilitating the implementation of TEGA (Technology Enabled Girl Ambassadors Project in Kano. Girl Effect Nigeria 2016 to 2020

• Improved access to information and justice on sexual and gender based violence to vulnerable girls (out of school) in Dutse LGA, Jigawa State Justice 4 All 2015 to 2016

• Girls Connect (user access and experience testing) seeks to understand the best operating model for Girls Connect, including marketing strategies and messages, content generation, management systems, data storage etc. Girl Effect Nigeria 2017

The membership may be terminated by self- withdrawal, resignation and explosion of member.

• Support and implementation of the Citizen-Led household assessment Initiative in Kano state.  LEARNigeria (TEP Centre) 2017

• Girls Connect: On Demand Content, On Demand Conversations (Improved access to information to girls on topics relevant to her life, these will include topics on friendship, safety, Health, Education and social media) Girl Effect Nigeria 2017 to 2019

• Increasing Access to safe abortion and effective use of Contraceptives to Adolescents girls and women of reproductive so as to decrease the maternal mortality and increase women access to Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services, needs and desires regarding Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights through community sensitization and referrals Ipas/Global Affairs Canada II, in KMC and Bichi February 2020 to March 2021

• Community Accountability on (GF/CRS/ACOMIN Malaria Project) Global Fund Malaria, in Bichi and Gaya May 2019 to date

• Integrated Child Health and Social Services Award (ICHSSA 3) AYDI provided comprehensive and coordinated care for Orphans, vulnerable children and youths in Tofa, Bagwai, Ungogo, Karaye and Shanono Local Government Areasof Kano State. Society for Health/USAID April 2020 to Sept 2020

• AYDI is implementing the Orphan and Vulnerable Children prevention program under ICHSSA 3 project, IMsaferInstructors which is targeting adolescents aged 9-14 years’ old as the priority and also with 15-18 years old boys and girls who are in and out of school and other group settings in the communities at risk of SGBV and HIV, in Fagge, KMC, Tarauni, Ungogo and Nassarawa Local Government Areas of Kano State. These adolescents will receive a time-limited, curriculum based intervention to reduce risk of HIV and sexual violence. Society for Health/USAID Oct 2020 to Sept 2021

• Established a community school for OVCs and less privilege children in Dutse, Jigawa state with an enrolment of 150pupils

AISHA HALLIRU [EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AYDI]

USAID Peace Ambassador

Aisha Halliru has over 30 Years of experience in developing, managing and giving technical support on public and health education. HND in printing technology from Kaduna Polytechnic 1985 to 1987, National Youth Service Corps in 1988. Head of women centers under the Agency for Mass Education, Instructor for Women Adult literacy classes as a volunteer, Health Educator during epidemics with Medicines San Frontiers MSF Nigeria Holland, Head of printing department under the Agency for Mass Education, Kano State Volunteer Teacher with Girl-Child Education classes at YEDA women vocational center, Founding member and was the senior program officer and the acting executive director of Youth and Environmental Development Association (YEDA), Currently the Executive Director Halliru Memorial Youth Development and Empowerment initiative(AYDI) and the founding member, The coordinator of Development in Action for women and YouthEmpowerment (DiA) in Nigeria, Assisted in planning, implementing and monitoring of out of school youthson HIV&AIDS prevention Project funded by (FHI/USAID) and Pathfinder International (Packard), Trainer for child to child program, a participatory Health Education project, Institute of child health, university of London. Chairperson Kano State ku Saurara local steering committee an Adolescent Reproductive Health communication project supported by JHUCCP/Packard, Assisted in managing youth on peaceful democracy and good governance project funded by CEDPA/PACE project and UNEAD/EU, Co-coordinated YEDA Vocational Training Center and Girl-Child Section. Participate in the monitoring of 2003 election YEDA/CEDPA-PACE Project. Peer Education plus (PEP) Master Trainer from 2006 to 2009 under CHIPAC project and worked with five target groups, Female out of School Youth (FOSY), Male out School Youth (MOSY), Female Sex Workers (FSW), Uniform Service Men (USM) and Transport Workers. Facilitate the formation of the CBO (Bichi Development Association) at SFH CHIPAC project site and implemented Behavior Maintenance. A Master trainer for Reproductive Health & HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care Project by NYSC/UNICEF, (PETs) Project Implementing Behavior Maintenance at SFH CHIPAC project site working with 5 CBOs (Bichi Development Association, Wudil Kana Cibiyar Ruwa, Bukavu Barrack, Kings Garden Youth Association and peer educators health action Group Gyadi-Gyadi), Implemented Peer Education plus (PEP) training sessions with faith base organization (NASFAT), from 2006 to 2009.  Facilitated the participatory methods in RH workshop for university lecturers of RH by DRPC Kano April 2010, TOT for Educator Mentor by SESP, coordinate 25 girls safe spaces/ girl ambassadors, coordinate Technology Enabled Girl Ambassadors(TEGA), mentor and provide duty of care as the safe guarding officer and Chaperone of TEGA out of Kano for GEN activities, with support from Girl Effect Nigeria.

AISHA CONTRIBUTED IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS;

• The Back to school Project; where 106 girls from Dala and Madobi Local Governments in Kano state were enrolled  and retained in school with monthly mentoring throughout their school year.(VSO)


• Entrepreneurship basic training for 40 girls and 2 CEVs on Girls productions and sales of products; liquid soap, cosmetic base, air freshener, Talcum powder white & Red, dusting powder and money management. (AYDI to sustain VSO project)

• The project ZIP UP PLUS; for girls on HIV prevention for in school youths in Dala LGA) campaign for in school girls through peer to peer safe spaces in schools (SFH Kano).

• The Yamuke Yammata Programme; A 16 weeks program aired on Freedom Radio for girls on four topics (Relationship, Safety, Education and Social Media). AYDI Supported in recruitment of Girl Ambassadors for the jingle recording to anchoring the Yamuke Yammata radio show, Conducting pretest assessment, managing listenership circle within safe spaces, Conduct community advocacy visit as well as support in the Yamuke Yammata posttest assessment. (Girl Effect Nigeria 2015)


• Facilitating the implementation of TEGA (Technology Enabled Girl Ambassadors Project in Kano. A research methodology were trained girls collect quantitative and qualitative data in communities. Girl Effect Nigeria 2016 to date

• Improved access to information and justice on sexual and gender based violence to vulnerable girls (out of school) in Dutse LGA, Jigawa State Justice For All2015 

• Girls Connect is a digital platform were girls can access information on Relationship, Safety, Economic empowerment and Education.
